Nectre Wood-Burning Oven & Fireplace

Quicklinks

Sitting in front of a crackling fireplace is probably what comes to mind when you think about cozying up on a cold winter day. Fireplaces are an effective way to heat a room, however, a wood-burning stove is a better choice, and here’s why.

Wood stoves and wood fire ovens have been around for a long time. It was in the 1500s when the first wood stoves were invented. Wood stoves are most commonly seen in cold, snowy climates in the United States. But now, they are used all around the world to keep people warm in their homes, especially during the winter season. A good alternative to a standard gas fireplace or electric fireplace is a wood oven that also acts as a fireplace, which is more efficient.

Wood-burning stoves of today are more energy-efficient and environmentally beneficial than those of the past. In 1988, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the first energy-efficiency guidelines for wood-burning stoves. The efficiency of wood stoves has only improved since then.

How Does a Wood Stove or Wood-Fired Oven Work?

Wood-burning stove and wood-fired oven | Flame Authority - Trusted Dealer

A wood-burning stove or wood-fired oven works by manually controlling each component. Since there are no moving parts or any electrical components in a wood stove, you must manually control it to work properly and burn wood more efficiently.

It works by letting the wood burn inside a fire-proofed compartment that is enclosed. The amount of wood that can be placed inside and the amount of heat that may be produced are both determined by the size of the firebox. To burn the wood more slowly and efficiently, the airflow to the fire can be regulated via the stove's air vents.

To produce additional heat through secondary combustion, waste gases produced by the fire are kept within the stove for a longer time and at a higher temperature. The metal bodies on the stove emit heat into the room.

Wood Oven and Stove Components

Wood ovens and stoves are usually constructed with cast iron, stone, or steel materials. As the name implies, they use wood to cook or produce heat. The following are the components that make up a wood stove.

  1. Stove – This is where the dried wood is placed to be lit up. The heat from a fire in a wood stove warms both the stove and the air in the room.

  2. Chimney – The chimney of the stove is used to draw the smoke from the fire out of the house.

  3. Damper – The damper is used to control the airflow to the stove. The size of the fire and the amount of heat it produces depends on how you manage the airflow.

  4. Baffle – The time it takes for the fire gasses to burn up is increased by a baffle (or baffles, depending on the wood stove's design and size). This is important because partially combusted gases can become severe air pollutants.
