The Dimplex OLF66-AM is a 66-inch built-in water vapor electric fireplace engineered to deliver a deep, dimensional flame experience without real fire. Its Optimyst® system atomizes water into a fine mist, then illuminates that mist with LED lighting to create the appearance of rising flames and smoke.

Unlike a conventional gas or wood-burning fireplace, the OLF66-AM does not require a chimney, flue, gas line, or combustible fuel. It is a non-venting indoor electric fireplace that can be installed into a properly framed wall with the required electrical connection, water connection, and fresh-air inlet.

The integrated fan-forced heater can provide supplemental warmth when needed. The flame effect and heater can also be controlled independently, making the fireplace suitable for year-round visual use.

How Optimyst® Water Vapor Technology Works

The Optimyst® system creates its flame effect by converting water into an ultra-fine mist. LED lighting illuminates the moving vapor, producing the appearance of dimensional flames and smoke rising through the media bed.

Because the effect is created with water and light, there is no burning fuel, ash, soot, or combustion exhaust. The appearance is not a flat image projected onto a screen; the illuminated vapor occupies physical space inside the firebox, which helps create greater depth and movement.

The fireplace requires a fresh-air inlet beneath the unit so the vapor modules can operate correctly. Dimplex specifies a minimum air-inlet area of 120 square inches for the OLF66-AM. Failure to provide the required airflow may reduce flame performance and damage the fireplace.

Heating Performance

The OLF66-AM includes a fan-forced ceramic heater for supplemental room heating. When connected to 120 volts, the unit is rated at 1,480 watts. When connected to 240 volts, it is rated at 2,180 watts.

The listed heat output is approximately 5,050 BTU at 120 volts and 7,438 BTU at 240 volts. Actual comfort performance depends on room size, insulation, ceiling height, climate, heat loss, and installation conditions.

Comfort$aver™ operation adjusts heater wattage and fan speed in response to the temperature setting. Available operating modes include normal heat, Eco mode, timed Heat Boost, frost protection, and fan-only circulation.

The thermostat can be set from 59°F to 86°F. The heater can also be temporarily disabled through the hidden controls or permanently disconnected during installation when a flame-only application is required.

The fireplace requires an initial warm-up period before the vapor flame appears. Dimplex notes that the flame effect begins after an approximately three-minute warm-up sequence and may require additional operating time to stabilize before final flame adjustments are made.

Control Options

Multifunction Remote Control

The included Bluetooth remote provides access to standby, heat, thermostat, timer, heat mode, flame intensity, lighting themes, brightness, and sound-volume functions.

Hidden Touch Controls

Touch controls are located near the upper-right area of the fireplace. They remain visually concealed when inactive and provide access to key operating and setup functions.

Flame Connect App

The fireplace can be paired with the Dimplex Flame Connect app for compatible mobile-device control. A suitable Wi-Fi connection should be available at the installation location when app operation is desired.

Timer

The timer can be set from 30 minutes to eight hours in 30-minute intervals. When the selected time expires, the fireplace returns to standby.

The OLF66-AM is a built-in indoor fireplace. Installation should follow the manufacturer's instructions and all applicable electrical, plumbing, and building-code requirements.

Fresh-Air Inlet

A minimum 120-square-inch fresh-air inlet is required. The airflow path must reach the underside of the fireplace. If the inlet is covered by a decorative grille, the total opening must be enlarged to compensate for the area blocked by the grille.

The air inlet may be incorporated as a recessed opening, a front register, or side registers. For side-register configurations, openings on both sides are recommended for best results.

Recommended Mounting Height

For an optimized viewing angle, Dimplex recommends positioning the bottom of the fireplace between 5 and 50 inches above the floor.

Structural Considerations

The fireplace is not load-bearing. The surrounding framing must support the wall materials without placing pressure on the top of the firebox.

Installation Team

Two people are recommended for positioning the firebox, and two people are required for handling and installing the front glass.

Electrical Requirements

The fireplace may be hardwired for either 120-volt or 240-volt operation. Electrical work must comply with applicable local and national electrical codes.

An optional OLFPLUG power-cord kit may be used only with a 120-volt installation. Extension cords must not be used.

The field-wiring connection is located near the upper-right rear corner of the firebox. The framing should be planned so the electrical supply can be routed to this location.

Water Supply Requirements

The OLF66-AM is designed to connect to a cold-water source using standard 1/4-inch outside-diameter tubing. The connection is located near the lower-left rear area of the fireplace.

The water shutoff should remain accessible for scheduled maintenance. All plumbing must comply with applicable local plumbing-code requirements.

Water Quality

Normal tap water can be used. In hard-water areas, a water softener is recommended, and the fireplace may require more frequent cleaning. Unfiltered water from a well or another unmonitored source is not recommended.

The fireplace includes an inline mesh filter to help reduce contaminants entering the water system. Newly installed plumbing lines should be flushed before connection so debris does not enter the fireplace.

Manual Refill Option

When a direct water connection is not possible, compatible refillable water containers may be used. Dimplex does not recommend the manual-refill approach for applications with frequent use.

The OLF66-AM contains three vapor modules, so one refill container is required for each module. One manual refill provides up to approximately six hours of flame operation. The front glass and media tray must be removed whenever the containers are refilled.

Media and Flame Customization

The fireplace includes acrylic crystals and driftwood for creating a contemporary ember-bed presentation. Small crystals are used to cover the media bed, while larger crystals and driftwood can be arranged to suit the desired appearance.

Flame baffles are included for controlling spacing and shaping the vapor flame. The fireplace can operate with or without the baffles.

Custom decorative media may be used only when it fits safely without scratching the glass, bending the media bed, or interfering with fireplace operation. Sand and liquid media must not be used.

Driftwood should not normally be placed directly across the vapor-output slots. When a log is positioned over an output slot, the supplied baffles should be used to reduce mist beneath that area and help prevent condensation.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Routine cleaning is required to maintain safe operation and consistent vapor-flame performance.

Monthly Water-System Cleaning

The top cover, sump, water containers when used, and transducers should be cleaned with soap and water at least once per month. Hard-water conditions or heavy use may require more frequent cleaning.

Air Filters

The air filters can be removed, gently rinsed with water, dried on a towel, and reinstalled. The coarse black side should face the rear of the fireplace when the filter is replaced.

Glass and Painted Surfaces

Use a damp cloth on the glass and painted surfaces. The interior side of the glass may occasionally become cloudy and require cleaning. Abrasive cleaners must not be used.

Annual Inspection

The heater should be inspected regularly and at least once per year to prevent dust or dirt buildup that could cause excessive heat or damage.

Transducers

Flame performance may decrease after prolonged use if a transducer becomes worn or contaminated. Clean the module components first. If performance does not improve, transducer replacement may be required.

Service Work

Other than the installation and cleaning procedures described by the manufacturer, service should be performed by an authorized service representative.

Safety Information

• Use the fireplace indoors only.
• Do not block the front heater outlet, ventilation openings, or fresh-air inlet.
• The trim around the heater outlet may become hot during heater operation.
• Keep gasoline, paint, and flammable liquids away from the fireplace.
• Do not insert objects into ventilation or exhaust openings.
• Turn the fireplace off when it is not in use.
• Disconnect power before cleaning, maintenance, or service.
• Do not operate a damaged or malfunctioning fireplace.
• New electrical circuits or outlets should be installed by a qualified electrician.
• The fireplace must be properly grounded.
• Do not use an extension cord with the optional plug kit.
• Do not install the fireplace where it could fall into a bathtub or water container.
• Do not use the fireplace if water can enter the appliance.
• Children and other vulnerable occupants should be supervised near the operating heater.

Bathroom Installation

When installed in a bathroom, the fireplace must be protected by a GFCI receptacle or circuit. Any receptacle used must remain accessible.

The fireplace is not watertight. It must be installed away from showers, bathtubs, and other locations where water could enter the unit or where the fireplace could fall into a water container.

Installing a Television, Mantel, or Artwork Above the Fireplace

When mounting a television, mantel, artwork, or another temperature-sensitive object above the fireplace, follow the installation and heat-clearance requirements provided by the manufacturer of that object.

The fireplace manufacturer does not provide a universal clearance that overrides the requirements of the television, mantel, finish material, or artwork manufacturer.

Important Buying Considerations

This Fireplace Requires More Than Electrical Power

Although it is an electric fireplace, the Optimyst flame effect also depends on water and correctly planned airflow. The wall design must account for the electrical supply, cold-water line, shutoff access, and required fresh-air inlet.

It Is Not Maintenance-Free

The vapor system must be cleaned regularly. Water quality, frequency of use, and environmental conditions can affect how often the transducers, sumps, filters, and related components require attention.

Heating Is Supplemental

The heater can add comfort to the room, but the product should not be selected as the sole heating source for an entire home or building.

Plan Service Access

Consider using removable trim or another service-conscious wall design. Permanent finishes that prevent access may increase the difficulty and expense of future maintenance or repair.
